Paul John XO is an Indian grape brandy from John Distilleries in Goa, bottled at 46% in a 75cl bottle. It is distilled in copper pot stills from Ugni Blanc and Bangalore Purple grapes.
It is matured for over ten years in medium-toasted new French Limousin oak barrels, with the tropical climate speeding the wood's influence. The colour is deep golden amber.
The nose is sweetly honeyed, with fresh fig, apricot, strawberry liquorice, orange zest, a herbal lift and gentle butterscotch. Sweet cranberry and rum raisin come through on the palate, balanced by layered oak and spice. The finish is long and creamy, with sweet oak, natural caramel and a touch of white pepper.
