Penderyn Celt is a Welsh single malt that takes its smoky side from a finish in former peated quarter casks. It is bottled at 40%, without chill-filtration or added colouring.
Penderyn distils on its own Faraday still. Here the peat gives a gentle maritime and slightly medicinal smokiness, and the whisky stays fresh rather than heavily peated.
The nose offers mild peat smoke and a rocky coast alongside warm orange marmalade on toast. The palate starts sweet, then smoky, lightly medicinal notes appear, with fresh citrus behind. The finish is long, with a fine bitterness and a fresh note.
