Raasay Single Malt R-02.1

R-02.1 is the second release of single malt from the Isle of Raasay Distillery, on the island of Raasay. As with the first batch, it brings together peated and unpeated spirit, here matured in first-fill rye whiskey casks, virgin Chinkapin oak and first-fill Bordeaux red wine casks. The peated malt is made with Highland peat, at 48 to 52 ppm. The nose has a good measure of dry smoke balanced by red fruit, apples and cherries, and vanilla pods. The palate is lightly peppery, with fresh cream, wholemeal biscuits and lightly burnt buttered toast. A flinty touch of peat smoke and a hint of sultanas linger in the finish.
