Raiden Pure Malt is a Japanese malt whisky from Taikoku Shozu, a family-run distillery in Okinawa that was established in 1952 and also makes traditional Okinawa spirits and sake. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky blends malt whiskies aged in hogshead and ex-old sherry butt. Okinawa's warm subtropical climate and Pacific breeze are said to speed up maturation, giving a rich, balanced whisky with hints of tropical herbs.
The nose brings citrus, pineapple, banana and a hint of other tropical fruits. The palate is light-bodied, with a delicate maltiness, a touch of ginger juice and some oak. The finish is mellow and sweet, followed by a lingering light spiciness.
