The Emperor is a cask strength Japanese single malt from the Saburomaru Distillery in Tonami, Toyama prefecture. It was distilled in 2020 from heavily peated Highland malt at 50 ppm and bottled in 2024 at 60%, in an edition of 1,900 bottles. It is in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring. The Highland peat gives a dry, direct smoke. The label takes The Emperor, the fourth card of the tarot's major arcana, with a paper-cut by Yukie Kano, an artist from Himi. The nose is smoke with ash and light acidity, then pineapple, apricot, banana, menthol, chestnut and a fine note of bacon. The palate is rich, oily and sweet, with pronounced cask wood. The finish is warming and very long, with smoke, ash and wood.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
