This is the 2016 release of Sazerac 18 Year Old, a Kentucky straight rye from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort. It is one of the five annual releases that make up the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection, and it was bottled uncut and unfiltered at natural barrel proof.
The 2016 edition reflects the barrels Buffalo Trace chose for that year's collection. The name looks back to the Sazerac Coffee House, established in New Orleans in 1850.
On the nose there is mellow spice, dry sweetness, oak, leather, molasses and allspice, with mint and eucalyptus appearing as it opens. The palate is bold and balanced, with cinnamon, vanilla and rye spice, and the finish is long and warm with mint, pepper and cinnamon.
