Scapa – 21 Year Old (70cl, 50.7%)

Scapa 21 Year Old is a single malt from the Scapa distillery on Mainland, in the Orkney Islands. It is matured for 21 years in American white oak casks and bottled at 50.7% in a 70cl bottle. It is a limited release, bottled at cask strength each year, non-chill-filtered and without added colour. The distillery was founded in 1885 and resumed production in 2005, after a major refurbishment in 2004. It uses a Lomond still, a particular type of pot still. The nose offers homemade apricot jam, fresh raspberries, ripe banana and a hint of nutmeg. On the palate come fresh peaches and mango in vanilla cream, with cardamom and a touch of cinnamon. The finish is long and syrupy, with lingering fruit and a pleasant sweetness.
