Scarabus is an Islay single malt from the independent bottler Hunter Laing, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It matured in bourbon casks, is non-chill-filtered and has no added colouring. The name comes from Old Norse and means 'rocky place'. The whisky is strongly peated.
The nose is intense peat smoke with salty sea notes and a hint of green apple. On the palate, warming leather mixes with stewed rhubarb and vanilla sweetness. The finish is long and peaty, with light sweetness and a touch of charred wood.
