Shindo Experimental for Cores.02 is a Japanese whisky from Shindo Distillery and the distillery's first official peated expression. It sits in a series aimed at whisky enthusiasts.
The vatting is 67% peated bourbon cask, 15% non-peated bourbon cask, 13% new Mizunara cask, 3% Cognac cask and 2% Oloroso sherry cask. The Mizunara adds a gentle sweet-spicy aroma and mid-palate volume, the sherry enriches the body and the Cognac rounds the finish.
It opens with elegant, deep peat smoke and the brightness of bourbon casks. The palate joins smoke to a milky, fatty, toffee-like sweetness, and the finish is heavily sweet with a long aftertaste.
