Shizuoka Contact S is a single malt from Shizuoka distillery in Japan, aged for three years mainly in first-fill bourbon casks and bottled in 2021 at 55% ABV. It comes in a brown box.
It is made by combining two new-make spirits, K and W. The W spirit comes from a wood-fired wash still and has a deeper flavour and longer finish, while K is steam heated, fruitier and lighter.
On the nose there are earthy notes, soft wood smoke, caramel, grilled mango and stewed apple. The palate opens with pepper and creamy vanilla, and the finish is long.
