Smoke Wagon Desert Colt is a cask-strength, non-chill-filtered high-rye bourbon from Nevada H&C Distilling Co. in Las Vegas, bottled at about 58.35% in a 750ml bottle.
The mashbill is 60% corn, 36% rye and 4% malted barley, using distillate sourced from MGP in Indiana. The barrels mature on the top floors of the Las Vegas warehouse, where the desert heat drives a strong interaction between spirit and oak.
The nose offers candied fruit, sweet cornbread, nutty vanilla and cinnamon. On the palate, honey and toffee give way to cinnamon, baking spice and light oak tannin, with a creamy texture. The finish is medium to long, with cinnamon, toffee and dry oak char.
