This is Batch 17 of Stagg Jr, the annual cask-strength Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace, named for George T. Stagg. It was released in winter 2021.
Each Stagg Jr batch is a separate barrel selection bottled at its natural proof. Batch 17 is 64.35% ABV, bottled uncut and unfiltered in Frankfort, Kentucky. It comes from the original Stagg Jr years, before the name was shortened to Stagg in 2022.
The nose is rich and sweet, with chocolate, brown sugar and rye spice. On the palate it is full-bodied, with the same chocolate and brown sugar set against bold rye. The finish is long, with cherries, cloves and smoke.
