Stagg Batch 23A is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, the first 2023 release in the distillery's annual cask-strength Stagg series. The series was known as Stagg Jr until 2022.
It is bottled uncut and unfiltered at 65.1% ABV (130.2 proof), in a 75cl bottle. Each batch is a selection of barrels at natural proof, and the same approach is used for the George T. Stagg release.
The nose is fruit-forward, with stewed and black cherry, grape and fig over caramel, toffee and butterscotch, plus toasted oak and a touch of leather. On the palate come cherry cola, dark fruit, baking spice and clove. The finish brings cherry, oak and gentle smoke.
