Stagg Batch 23C is the third 2023 release of Buffalo Trace's annual cask-strength bourbon, named for George T. Stagg. It is uncut and unfiltered, bottled at 62.95% ABV (125.9 proof).
This was the first time Stagg had been released three times in a single year, and it is widely described as drinking well below its stated strength.
The nose shows dark berry, grape and blackberry with caramel, vanilla, candied pecan and toasted oak. On the palate, cinnamon, anise and white pepper sit over caramel, brown sugar and honey, with fig and leather. The finish is apple skin and cinnamon sugar with toasted oak.
