Stauning – Bastard Malted Rye Mezcal Finish (46.3%)

Stauning Bastard is a malted rye whisky from the Stauning distillery in West Jutland. The grain is local, malted on the floor at the distillery and distilled twice over open fire. It spent three years in new, charred American oak and was then finished for six months in used mezcal casks from Oro de Oaxaca in Mexico. This is the second release in the distillery's Research Series, and the label artwork was drawn by the tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard. The nose is sweet tobacco smoke with raisins, oats and citrus. On the palate come tobacco, cinnamon, vanilla, barley, brown sugar, molasses and shortbread, leading to a long, sweet finish of brown sugar, pepper, gentle smoke and salt.
