Stauning – Bastard Mezcal Finish Danish Whisky (70cl, 46%)

This is Stauning Bastard, a Danish rye whisky finished in mezcal casks and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is made from local ingredients, floor-malted at the distillery and double-distilled in flame-heated pot stills. It spends at least three years in new, toasted virgin American oak, then at least six months in old mezcal casks from Oro de Oaxaca in Mexico. The nose has sweet pipe tobacco smoke, raisins, oat biscuit, citrus and oak. The palate offers tobacco, vanilla, barley, dried fruit, cinnamon, brown sugar, molasses and shortbread. The finish is long, sweet and slightly smoky and salty, with brown sugar and pepper.
