Stauning Bastard – Research Series Batch 1-2021 (70cl, 46.3%)

Stauning Bastard is a Danish rye whisky from the distillery's Research Series, Batch 1-2021. It was finished in mezcal casks and bottled in 2021 at 46.3% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. The mezcal finish gives it a smoky, spicy character that differs from classic rye whiskies. The outturn is 2,236 bottles. The nose has smoke, spice, citrus zest and earthy notes reminiscent of mezcal. On the palate there is spicy rye, pepper, clove and toasted notes over a subtle sweetness. The finish is medium to long, smoky, spicy and slightly dry.
