Stauning – Bastard Rye Whisky Mezcal Finish (70cl, 46.3%)

Stauning Bastard is a Danish rye whisky and the second release in the distillery's Research Series. It is made from locally grown rye and barley, floor-malted on site and twice distilled in small, direct-fired stills. It spent at least three years in new, toasted American oak, followed by at least six months in former Oro de Oaxaca mezcal casks from Mexico. The bottle illustration is by tattoo artist Thit Hansgaard. It is bottled at 46.3%, without chill-filtration or added colour. The nose has sweet pipe tobacco smoke, raisins, oat biscuits, citrus and oak. Tobacco, vanilla and barley meet dried fruit on the palate. The finish is long and sweet, with brown sugar, pepper and salty notes, and a little smoke.
