Stauning El Clásico is an experimental Danish rye whisky from the distillery's Research Series. Batch 2021-1 was distilled in 2017 and bottled in March 2021 at 45.7%, in a 70cl bottle. Only 2,180 bottles were released.
It matured in virgin American oak and was then finished in Spanish vermouth casks.
The nose brings rye bread, orange peel, spice and a hint of vermouth-like bitterness. On the palate come peppery rye, caramel, dried herbs, light bitterness and a subtle sweetness. The finish is medium to long, spicy and slightly bitter.
