Stauning KAOS is a Danish triple malt that brings together three styles from the same distillery: unpeated single malt, peated single malt and whisky from malted rye. The barley and rye are grown locally and floor-malted on site.
This 2022 bottling matured in first-fill bourbon casks and virgin oak. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, without chill-filtration or added colouring. The name plays on the 1935 election slogan of Thorvald Stauning, Denmark's first Social Democratic prime minister: "Stauning or Chaos".
The nose has light smoke, spiced porridge and juicy apples. On the palate come cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and caramel, with smoke alongside pear and plum. The finish is long.
