Suntory Yamazaki 25 Year Old (75cl, 43%)

A 25 year old single malt Japanese whisky from Yamazaki Distillery, bottled at 43% in a 750ml bottle. Shinjiro Torii founded the distillery in 1923 at the foot of Mount Tennozan, in southwestern Kyoto. It is distilled from malted barley in copper pot stills, including straight-neck stills, and matured in American oak, Spanish ex-sherry casks and Japanese Mizunara oak. The nose is rich with plum, fig and blackberry, then chocolate, roasted coffee, aged oak and cinnamon. On the palate come ripe blackberries, dates, dark chocolate and molasses, with strawberry jam, liquorice, sandalwood and gentle ginger spice. The finish is very long, with dark fruit, light smoke, bitter chocolate and sandalwood incense.
