This is the 2024 edition of Yamazaki 18 Year Old Mizunara, an annual limited release. It is a Japanese single malt bottled at 48% ABV in a 70cl bottle, from the Yamazaki Distillery near Osaka.
Every cask is Japanese Mizunara oak, and the malt whiskies in the vatting are at least 18 years old. The standard Yamazaki 18 also draws on sherry and bourbon casks, but this edition uses Mizunara alone.
The nose is dark cherry, ripe peach, sandalwood and incense, with a little distant smoke. The palate is orangette, raisins, poached pear and marmalade, then honey and dark chocolate. The finish is long, with clove, sandalwood and a little dried coconut.
