Teeling – Blackpitts Peated (70cl, 46%)

Teeling Blackpitts Peated is an Irish single malt made from peated barley and matured in ex-bourbon and Sauternes white wine casks. Triple distillation takes some of the medicinal edge off the smoke and brings out more barbecue character. The cask pairing took its cue from an earlier 24-year-old Teeling single malt, named best single malt at the 2019 World Whiskies Awards. Blackpitts is bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and without added colour, in a 70cl bottle with a tube. Barbecue smoke, clove, butterscotch and orange peel show on the nose. Apple wood smoke and allspice meet honey, stewed pears and grilled pineapple on the palate, and the finish returns to spicy smoke with salted caramel.
