The Currach Kombu Seaweed Cask is an Irish single malt, triple distilled from malted Irish barley and bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The whiskey first matures in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels of American oak. Fresh oak casks for the finish are then charred with Atlantic kombu seaweed, gathered by hand off County Clare by the Talty family, who have worked the harvest for four generations. The kombu adds a faintly sweet, lightly salty umami character.
The nose combines toffee and raisins with roasted kombu and a touch of almond. The palate brings roasted coffee, salted caramel and dark chocolate, with nutty, earthy tones, maritime umami and a hint of smoke. The finish is long and maritime, with a fine sweetness.
