A 12-year-old Speyside single malt from The GlenAllachie, part of its Virgin Oak Series. The whisky first matured in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, then spent about 18 months in virgin French oak from the Haute-Garonne region near the Pyrenees, air-dried for 15 months beforehand. The result is a rich bronze colour.
The nose brings waves of honey, toffee, mocha, orange zest and nutmeg. On the palate there is heather honey and caramel, with layers of mocha, cinnamon and grapefruit and a pinch of earthy tannins.
