The GlenAllachie – Sinteis Part I: 2014 Chinquapin & PX Cask Matured (70cl, 57.8%)

This is the first release in The GlenAllachie's Sinteis series, a name that means 'synthesis' in Scottish Gaelic and reflects the distillery's pairing of two wood types. Here, single malt matured in first-fill Pedro Ximénez sherry puncheons meets Chinquapin, a native American oak from the Ozarks in Missouri. It is bottled at a cask strength of 57.8% ABV, with natural colour and without chill-filtration. The nose brings liquorice, butterscotch and grilled honeycomb with candied orchard fruits, cocoa and treacle tart. On the palate come ginger, butterscotch and candied lemon, then fig jam, blackberries and molasses. The finish carries cinnamon spice and rich cocoa.
