The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old is a Speyside single malt matured exclusively in sherry-seasoned casks of American and European oak. The American oak is shipped to Spain, where the casks are made and seasoned with sherry before being used to mature the whisky for 12 years. That whisky is then married with whisky matured in European oak. It is described as sweet, smooth and harmonious, balancing American oak and citrus notes against the rich fruit and spice typical of The Macallan.
