This is the 2020 release of Macallan's 18 year old Double Cask, a Speyside single malt bottled at 43%. It was matured in two kinds of oak, in handmade casks seasoned with dry Oloroso sherry.
American oak gives vanilla, citrus and a buttery note, while European oak adds Macallan's subtle spice. The result is a sweeter, warmer single malt.
The nose is dried fruit, ginger and caramel, with rich orange and a hint of nutmeg. The palate has raisin and sultana with caramel, vanilla and ginger, balanced by wood spice and fresh citrus. The finish is warm oak spice and ginger, turning to sweet orange.
