The Macallan 1997 18 Years Old Sherry Oak (70cl, 43%)

A Highland single malt from Macallan, aged for 18 years in sherry oak and bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle. The label gives 1997 as the year of distillation, adding 'and in earlier years'. It is the 1997 edition of the distillery's sherry cask 18 year old, bottled by Macallan itself. The nose combines walnuts, marmalade, chestnut honey, sweet bread and fresh mushrooms. The palate shows honeyed oranges, orange blossom, chartreuse, sultanas and toasted brioche, with a little fig liqueur. The finish is malty and chocolaty rather than long.
