The Midnight Silkie is a smoky Irish blended malt from Sliabh Liag Distillers of County Donegal. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and without chill-filtration. It was introduced in December 2021 as the third permanent Silkie bottling.
Five triple-distilled single malts go into the blend, with no grain whiskey. The peated 35% matured in bourbon casks. The rest comes from sherry casks with a virgin oak finish (30%), imperial stout casks (20%), red wine casks (10%) and Oloroso casks (5%).
The nose brings muscovado sugar, chocolate orange, pipe smoke and sweet tobacco. The palate is sweet and warm, with dark sugar syrup and dry peat smoke, then toffee apples, oak and leather. The finish fades from sweet to dried fruit and peat.
