W.L. Weller 12 Year is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon made at Buffalo Trace and aged for a minimum of 12 years. It is bottled at 45% in a 75cl bottle.
The recipe uses wheat rather than rye as its secondary grain, in homage to William Larue Weller, who introduced the first bourbon made that way in 1849.
The nose offers lanolin, almond, creamed corn, toasty vanilla, caramel and molasses. The palate is layered and moderately sweet, with candied corn, ripe and dried fruit and cocoa powder. The finish is long, oaky and smooth, with hints of mint, fruit and vanilla.
