W.L. Weller 12 Year is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace in Frankfort, aged for a minimum of 12 years and bottled at 45% ABV in a 1.75 litre bottle.
It uses wheat rather than rye as its secondary grain, a recipe that goes back to William Larue Weller in 1849.
The nose combines lanolin, almond, creamed corn and toasty vanilla. The palate is layered and moderately sweet, with caramel, molasses, candied corn, ripe fruit and cocoa powder. The finish is long and oaky, with hints of mint, fruit and vanilla.
