W.L. Weller 12 Year Old is a wheated Kentucky straight bourbon from Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, aged for 12 years and bottled at 45% ABV in a 750ml bottle.
Wheat takes the place of rye as the secondary grain in the mash bill, which gives a softer, rounder style of bourbon. The recipe is shared with the Van Winkle line.
Caramel, vanilla and honey lead the nose, with soft oak, dried fruit and gentle baking spice. The palate is smooth and rounded, with brown sugar, dried cherry and cinnamon, and the finish is long and mellow with vanilla and oak.
