W.L. Weller Special Reserve (75cl, 45%)

W.L. Weller Special Reserve is a Kentucky straight bourbon from the Buffalo Trace distillery in Frankfort, bottled at 45% ABV in a 75cl bottle. It is a wheated bourbon, made with wheat rather than rye as the secondary grain alongside corn. The brand is named after William Larue Weller, the distiller credited with pioneering wheat in place of rye in straight bourbon. The wheat softens the spice, so caramel, honey and vanilla lead. The nose is sweet caramel with honey and soft vanilla. On the palate come honey, caramel, vanilla and light fruit with a touch of oak. The finish is smooth and rounded, closing on sweet honeysuckle.
