Waterford – Bannow Island Edition 1.2 (2020) (70cl, 50%)

This is an Irish single malt from Waterford, part of the Single Farm Origin series. The barley was grown on Bannow Island, a coastal area in south-eastern Ireland. The whisky was distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2020 at 50% ABV after four years of maturation, with about 9,000 bottles released. It was matured in a mix of bourbon casks, French wine barrels, virgin oak and Oloroso sherry casks. The nose is malty and fresh, with green apple, citrus, floral notes and light woody spice. On the palate come grain, pear, citrus peel, soft tannins, spice and a faint saltiness. The finish is dry, mineral and medium-long.
