This is an Irish single malt from Waterford Distillery, from its Single Farm Origins series, which shows the character of barley grown on individual farms. Hook Head Edition 1.1 uses barley grown on clay soils near a lighthouse on Ireland's south coast.
It was distilled in February 2017 and bottled in February 2021 at 50% ABV, without added colouring or chill-filtration. The casks were 46% first fill American oak, 22% virgin American oak, 15% French premium oak and 17% casks that previously held Vin Doux Naturel.
The nose is earthy and malty with citrus peel, bread crust, clove and white pepper. The palate is spicy, with salted caramel, liquorice, ginger biscuits and chilli chocolate. The finish is dry and oily.
