West Cork Glengarriff Series Bog Oak Charred Cask (70cl, 43%)

An Irish single malt from West Cork Distillers, part of the Glengarriff Series, in a 70cl bottle at 43% ABV. For this release the casks are charred by hand on the inside using bog oak, the petrified, fossilised wood taken from Irish peat bogs. The result is a dark, earthy smoke character. The nose brings dark smoke, roasted nuts, earth, wet wood, brown sugar and hints of cocoa. The palate is full and rich, with peaty smoke, spices, caramel, dark honey and toasted oak, and a background of Irish sweetness. The finish is long, warm, smoky and slightly spicy, with charcoal and toffee.
