Westward American Single Malt is made in Portland, Oregon, from 100% malted barley, using locally malted barley and ale yeast in fermentation. It is aged in new charred American oak and bottled at 45% ABV, without an age statement.
The use of ale yeast brings brewing tradition into the distillery, and the whiskey sits between sweet maltiness and heavy oak, with a firm malt base and noticeable oak influence.
The nose is sweet malt and vanilla with caramel, citrus peel and toasted oak. The palate is creamy, with honey, caramel, oak spice and orange peel, and the finish is medium to long, with vanilla and malt.
