This is a seven-year-old single barrel straight rye from Willett Distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky, from barrel number 2611. It was matured in American white oak and bottled at a cask strength of 54.7% ABV, without dilution.
The nose combines fresh mint, vanilla, candied orange peel and aniseed with a touch of candy floss, rye spice, honey, pipe tobacco and toasted oak. The palate brings orange, demerara sugar, fresh herbs and a light sweetness. With a little water, berries, whipped cream, dried apricot and black tea come forward.
The finish is peppery and clove-like, with a strong wood character, lemon drops, a hint of cherry cola and fresh mint.
