Writers' Tears Red Head (70cl, 46%)

Writers' Tears Red Head is a triple-distilled Irish single malt matured entirely in Oloroso sherry butts, rather than given a sherry finish at the end. Its name comes from the ruby colour it takes on in those casks. Walsh Whiskey introduced it in 2016 as the first single malt in the Writers' Tears range, with 12,000 bottles at launch. It is bottled at 46%, without chill-filtration or added colour. Orange peel, dried fruit and sherry-like plum lead the nose. On the palate the Oloroso shows nutty notes, with spicy raisins and creamy oak. The long finish carries a note of orange.
