Amrut Intermediate Sherry is a cask strength Indian single malt whisky from Amrut Distilleries of Bangalore, bottled at 57.1% in a 75cl bottle.
It is distilled from Indian barley grown in Punjab and matured in Bangalore's tropical climate. The name refers to its bourbon, sherry, bourbon wood path: the spirit rests in ex-bourbon and virgin oak casks, spends about a year in Spanish ex-Oloroso sherry butts, then returns to bourbon casks to finish.
The nose offers port-like dark fruit, candied cherries, vanilla and strawberry jam. The palate is malty, with raisins, dark chocolate, caramel and warming spice, leading to a long, dry, oaky finish with dark fruit and cocoa.
