Ardbeg – 10 Year Old (70cl, 46%)

This is the 10 year old Islay single malt from Ardbeg, bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle and non-chill filtered. It was named World Whisky of the Year in 2008. It is described as a very peaty, smoky whisky that lets the natural sweetness of the malt come through rather than showing off the peat. The nose has vanilla, peat, citrus fruit and sea spray. On the palate, sweet vanilla meets lemon and lime, followed by a surge of smoke. The finish is long, with sea-salted caramel and beach bonfire smoke.
