Ardbeg 14 Years The Unicorn's Tale is the second edition of the Ardbeg Anthology series, built around the story of the Islay unicorn. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle.
The whisky matured in a mix of Madeira casks and ex-bourbon casks, and the influence of the Madeira is clear in the finish.
The nose has baked banana bread, syrupy sponge and burning cedar, with tropical fruit opening up when water is added, and eucalyptus oil mingling with soft smoke. On the palate, lime and sweet peach give way to smoked fruit, baked bread, medicinal lozenges, creosote and aniseed, then malted barley, nutmeg and peat smoke. The finish is long, with menthol, clove, wood smoke and camphor.
