This is a 40-year-old Islay single malt from Ardbeg, bottled by Signatory Vintage in its Rare Reserve range. It was distilled on 13 September 1979, matured in bourbon barrel number 9861 and bottled on 18 June 2020 at a cask strength of 56.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
It carries no added colouring and is not chill-filtered. The outturn was 82 bottles.
The nose is intense smoke and cool ash with lemon, dark earth and a fine vanilla sweetness. On the palate, maritime salt and strong peat smoke combine with ripe apple, vanilla, earthy notes and spicy oak. The finish is very long, with peat, light saltiness and a subtle fruity close.
