This is a 21 year old Islay single malt from Ardbeg, a limited-edition private single cask bottled at 51% in a 70cl bottle. The cask is numbered 1565, and the title points to Oloroso sherry.
The nose is rich and bold, with syrup toffee, smoked orange peel, muscovado sugar and Brazil nuts. A splash of water brings out sherry notes of fruit, nuts, dates and figs.
The palate is lush and mouth-filling, with molasses, toffee and Brazil nuts alongside ginger chocolate, before paprika, leather and anise appear. The finish is long and intense, combining smoke, spice and dried fruit.
