Ardbeg 8 Years Old For Discussion is an Islay single malt released in 2021 as a Committee release. It was made as a talking point for the distillery's followers: a relatively young Ardbeg meant to show the distillery character plainly. The whisky matured mainly in ex-bourbon casks and is bottled at 50.8% ABV. Ardbeg wanted the release to prompt a debate about how well a younger whisky can carry the house character. The nose has charcoal, soot and peat smoke, with aniseed, fennel, medicinal notes, lemon peel, smoked bacon and sea salt. The palate is oily and peppery, with smoky barley, ash, liquorice and tar. The finish is long and dry, with charred oak, lemon zest and lingering peat.
