Ardbeg An Oa is an Islay single malt in a 70cl bottle, and a newer addition to the distillery's Ultimate range.
Its rounded character comes from time in a purpose-built oak Gathering Vat, where whiskies from several cask types, including sweet Pedro Ximenez, spicy virgin charred oak and intense ex-bourbon, come together before bottling.
The dram pairs smoky power with a smooth sweetness. Tasting notes mention Ardbeg peat, dark chocolate and aniseed, wrapped in silky butterscotch, black pepper and clove.
