Ardbeg – Corryvreckan (70cl, 51.7%)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky in a 70cl bottle, bottled at 51.7%. It takes its name from the whirlpool to the north of Islay and was named World's Best Single Malt in 2010 by the World Whiskies Awards. The palate is deep, peppery and chewy, with peppered steak and the tang of seaweed, then black tarry espresso coating the mouth with dark fruits such as blackcurrant, blueberry and cherry, plus bitter almonds. Star anise and hickory dry the palate, and chalky violets come through at the end.
