Ardbeg – Corryvreckan Cask Strength (70cl, 57%)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an Islay single malt bottled at a cask strength of 57% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in ex-bourbon and French oak casks. The name comes from the whirlpool to the north of Islay. The whisky is peaty and peppery, with a deep, heady character and a long finish. The nose brings tar, creosote and linseed oil, then waxy dark chocolate, blackcurrants, muscovado sugar, cherries and pine needles. The palate is peppery and chewy, with peppered steak, seaweed, black espresso coffee, dark fruits and bitter almonds, then star anise, hickory and a touch of violets.
