Ardbeg – Corryvreckan Cask Strength (70cl, 57%)

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is an Islay single malt bottled at a cask strength of 57% ABV, in a 70cl bottle. It takes its name from the whirlpool to the north of Islay and is matured in ex-bourbon and French oak casks. The whisky is peaty and peppery, with a long finish. The nose brings tarry ropes, creosote and linseed oil, with waxy dark chocolate, blackcurrants, muscovado sugar, cherries and pine needles. With water, peppered steak, oysters, seaweed and smoky bacon appear. The palate is deep, peppery and chewy, with black espresso, dark fruits, bitter almonds, star anise and hickory, and a note of violets at the end.
